Angling Participation

Angling Participation Research

Developing a better understanding of angling participation is one of the most important aspects of this research. Angling is often regarded as contributing to social, economic and environmental development in the UK. However, there is surprisingly little evidence to support such claims. We want to know why people go fishing, what their participation involves, how their participation delivers personal and community benefits, and the key issues likely to affect future participation.

How does angling fit into your life?

Please help our research by sharing your views about angling, and the role angling plays in your life. You can do this in a number of ways:

Progress thus far...

2,400+ responses to the 2009 questionnaire. So how are we doing so far...

The year ahead (2010)

2010 will focus on interviews with anglers and angling stakeholders. More about the year ahead

Angler Interviews In Progress...

Phone and email-based interviews with anglers in England and Scotland commenced in March 2010 and will continue during April and May this year. We aim to interview at least 50 anglers during this time.

Anglers who are not being interviewed but want to contribute to the research can comment on key issues, or they can tell us about angling organisations they are involved with using our Project Comment tool.

Interim Reports Published and Available

A detailed report about angling participation was one of four interim reports published in December 2009. The report contains the analysis of survey data representing more than 2,400 coarse, game and sea anglers in England and Scotland. For more, visit our Angling Research Resources website.
